As part of his study Mark executed a six-month soil and land suitability survey in North-West Botswana. After graduating he participated in a three-year research programme on soil degradation in recent agricultural colonization areas in South-East Brazil and Paraguay. This was followed by a one-year assignment for DHV Consultants: socio-economic and ecological zoning of the State of Rondonia (Brazil), where he was in charge of a soil survey team. His last position before joining ECNC in 2007 was as Policy and Campaigns Officer at Europa Nostra, the Pan-European Federation for Cultural Heritage. The main focus of his activities there was to coordinate policy campaigns for the safeguarding of endangered cultural heritage.
